Millions of Americans labor under crushing debt loads that entrap them, shatter dreams, and cripple their ability to save and increase assets. Debt profiteers and predatory lenders, enabled and enriched by tax laws, have for too long owned the message that quick and easy credit at any cost is good. The credit industry has persuaded many lawmakers to leave the market to its own devices by arguing credit is a service and should not be denied regardless of the terms.

AAA Fair Credit Foundation has been leading an effort to reconstruct the message and change attitudes and public policy measures. One of our objectives is to research and document the effects of rising debt on individuals and families and propose policies to remedy the economic and structural barriers to financial security for millions of people.
